The oldest English cutlery pattern, dating back to the 1600’s, Rattail gets its name from the sleek ‘tail’ on the reverse of the spoon bowl. Although methods in manufacturing cutlery have drastically changed since this patterns inception, the ‘tail’ on the reverse of the spoon is indicative of traditional methods where the spoon would have originally been made in two halves and soldered together – creating this distinctive marking.
Although Rattail is one of the oldest patterns of cutlery in existence, the design is simple and elegant and could be used as part of a modern or traditional aesthetic. Plus the rich history behind this pattern serves as quite the dinner party conversation!
Knife blades are made from specially hardened stainless steel which gives a perfectly sharp cutting edge. This means that blades won’t dull as quickly and there is less need for sharpening or refurbishment (both of which we can complete for you at our Sheffield factory.)
